adidas KG III: Key Guardian
  6.30 / 10
Pietro noticed that while Kevin Garnett wore a lot of different brand of shoes over the years, one thing that never changed is the Johnson & Johnson taping. His question was: Is it possible to have a lightweight, breathable, well cushioned and super protective shoe just as if you had your ankles taped? Since adidas's motto is "Impossible Is Nothing". So Peterflght came up with the idea of a "vertebrale column and ribs"-like structure, where extended adidas vertical stripes become a structural termoplastic stability device just as a vertebrale column, and the open wrap around leather straps provide protection and stability without compromising (frontal) movements. See his concept theme here.

February 2005 - Garnett III
adidas KG III
  6.79 / 10
For the KG III, Tom decided to go for a dynamic lightweight approach but keeping a shed load of lateral support and a lock in support system at the rear. The upper draws inspiration from soft snowboard bindings, hugging and locking down the foot around the forefoot, arch and heel. The rear blocking unit snaps down to load the foot and then snaps back up pushing the foot towards the front of the shoe. The forefoot straps have an elastic membrane between the synthetic parts to allow for finetuning of the fit. The cushioning unit is a lightweight A3 version 2 - basically a Horizontal V shaped peebax or TPU acting as a spring coil.

Olivier's design stands out as one of the most realistic renderings we've seen. The full-grain leather detail is just jumping out at you. But take a good long look and you can see that this design is much more than just a good render. The three stripes are very subtle but let's you know that this is an adidas shoe. Stand back a little and the shoe will look great from a far with its contrasting white/black combination. This shoe would look great both as on court or as a lifestyle shoe.

KG III The Rebirth
  6.19 / 10
Tony Hendrix designed the KG III to match Kevin Garnett's personality. Aggressive on the court, but chill on the inside. The medial side of the shoe represents the calm & cool side. It's called "The Rebirth" because of the reemergence of the shell toe, the Timberwolves, and Garnetts dominance and rise with Adidas. The shell consists of a leather upper flanked by a scratch and water proof heel wrap. The hex design should provide flexibility and strength. adiPRENE technology used in the sole as well as a hidden a3 support system.

February 2005 - Garnett III
adidas Garnett 3
  6.76 / 10
The KG3 captures the wild and ferocious nature of KG's game and personality. The shoe takes its inspiration from the wilde beast, which is primarily evident in the lateral stability structures. For cushioning, an external pod-like mechanism was deployed rather than the a3 cushioning technology. Overall, Joe just want to create a loud shoe that you just can't help but notice. While we don't think this is one of Joe's better work, there are some excellent design elements ideas here.

KG III

The beloved "feet you wear" technology is brought back to life with the help of "adidas a3" mechanical cushioning system in the revolutionary adidas KG3. This shoe works as a high-powered extension to your foot. Outsole design mimics the foot, herringbone traction in key areas give traction only where needed. Full length chromed external TPU stability plate wraps up around the base of the foot to provides added support and distribute impact forces across a broader surface area. The upper features a stiff external heel counter which wraps up around the rearfoot, providing added ankle protection.

February 2005 - Garnett III
The Insect
  6.53 / 10
The Insect by Adidas is a basketball shoe made for the player who has the rarest mix of speed and strength, the guy who's wiry and light, yet can post up, who's 7 feet tall, yet can shoot the ball from anywhere he wants, the guy who blocks shots like a power forward but leaps like a shooting guard. KG is the insect because of his extremely long arms and legs and his ability to leap, dunk and outstrength guys that look like they should easily have their way with him. Deceptively strong, deceptively quick and absolutely deadly. The asymmetrical design is highlighted by the lateral wing that makes its way from the outsole, up the upper into the eyestay. This piecing coupled with an asymetrical lacing system provides support during cutting and push off. The toe is protected by a cap that harkens back to the Adidas shell toes of the 70's and today. The upper is overlasted to create a sleek look, while internally, a carbon fiber shank & cage work with non-stretch mesh to provide the support needed for KG durin
