 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Nike All-Star Freestyle
5.60 / 10 On the surface, this is not a shoe that we'd pick for this month's theme. There are obvious hints to the Air Jordan I and the shoe is definitely going to stir some controversy. There are definitely more questions than answers about this shoe: what kind of support level will there be w/ the circular huarache cut out or the lack of stability due to No Midsole? However, there's something about the way this shoe look and feel that tells us, 'hey it just might work'. Like a pair of Relax-Fit jeans, the Nike All-Star Freestyle has that attitude of 'just wear me and chill' - especially with the cracked leather swoosh. It is obviously a love it or hate it design but we think it has the potential to really establish a trend?

 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Air Jordan 21 Ray Allen All-Star Edition
7.16 / 10 We snubbed Tyren's KG III design last month, and he answers with a bang. The Air Jordan 21 Ray Allen All-star Edition, is a light weight patten leather and full-grain leather shoe that focuses on comfort and a stylish sleek design. Key Features: the strap like design at the top of the ankle for added support and eye catching appeal. The design also features a full length zoom air unit which provides maximum comfort.

 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Nike Amare Stoudemire
6.33 / 10 The Nike Amare Stoudemire pays tribute to a rising star out of Phoenix and certainly an All-Star regular in the years to come. Isma tried to illustrate Amare's explosive playing style on the court. The shoe looks flashy & bold and the 32 Crown logo is a nice fitting touch.

 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | The Insight
7.22 / 10 Inspired by future All-Star Chris Bosh's slender build and the human ribcage. Protection and performance for your foot. Who would have thought hot pink and black goes so well together?

LEI WANG Friday, April 01, 2005
 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Reebok Ming Dynasty All-Star
6.90 / 10 The Ming Dynasty All-Star is based on Lei's "Ming Dynasty 2" from a year ago. The large Chinese character "Ming" is the main focus on this shoe. This character is also one of the 3 characters of "ALL-STAR" in Chinese. The font for this character is called "Zhuan", which has been used for more than a thousand years. Lei chose to use it because of its beautiful curves and shape - which follows the tradition of the big "AIR" on Nike More Uptempo. Now, "Ming Dynasty" is the first kick in the world that has a big "non-English" writing as the main design element. The large portion of red color has been used throughout the upper and sole because red is the all-star color, Rockets color and also the lucky color in Chinese culture.

 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Reebok K-6
7.12 / 10 Inspired by classic sports car two striped colorways (such as Ford GT-40 in the pics) this is the new Kenyon Martin signature shoe. Dynamic and aggressive to match KMart's athletic and powerful game. Key feature is the laceless Pump Fit System. It works in conjunction with the elastic mesh portion of the upper. Inflating the anatomically shaped air chambers (golden parts visible through the upper), your foot will be locked down perfectly in the easiest way, just clicking the Pump smiley button. Cushioning is provided via forefoot and heel UltraHexalite units, the mesh portions in lateral and medial side provide heat & moisture dissipation.

 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | And1 The Impulse
7.22 / 10 Ventsislav's All-Star concept for Jason Williams is a laceless impulse system that tightens as the foot strikes the ground. Using rope connectors, the system basically performs like the Pump 2.0 with air. The shoe also incorporates good ankle support via the rear strap and an overall lock down fit.

March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Air Huarache Plus Max
7.85 / 10 Edgar wasted little time to come back from his Ferrari win to submit a Huarache All-Star Edition worthy of Nike's production line right now. The borrowed inspirations from the current Huarache 2K4 and 2K5 are obvious. But it is the combination of futuristic styling with very classic old school cues that makes this shoe an instant standout.

 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Team Jordan Wing-Tech
6.08 / 10 Just in time for March Madness 2005, this shoe pays tribute to 5 college schools - unfortunately only one of them is still left in the big dance. The design was made so that when a player takes flight, the glare of the wing slashes in the air. It is to convey a sense of fast paced motion that is aggressive and breathtaking. The outsole of the shoe is filled with Zoom Air technology and supplemented with carbon fiber. This shoe is a universal team shoe that allows for a durable, flexibe and responsive shoe for all players in any position.

DOUGLAS VANDERVALK Saturday, March 26, 2005
 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Reebok Pump Organik
5.80 / 10 This design was inspired mainly by Doug's desire to create an organic looking
shoe. His original intent was to make a shoe that was
basically a sandal, and this idea evolved into the final design. His only
real hang up was deciding how to make the exoskeletal structures flexible
enough to get the foot into the shoe, but still allow the foot to be held in
place. The solution was to use Reebok Pump technology in a similar fashion
to the old Instapump Fury running shoe. The end
result is a shoe that hugs the foot, and is also futuristic in appearence - to showcase the future stars in the Denver All-Star games.

JULIEN TROMEUR Friday, March 25, 2005
 March 2005 - Freestyle: All-Star | Converse All-Star Freestyle
3.82 / 10 Hey, Freestyle = different & fresh. We asked for it, we got it. Julien started this shoe around a foot not knowing what he wanted to do. He then tried different shapes and looked at the flow, it's mainly the 3D mesh that was guiding him, the isolines produce a very nice way to drive the modeling.
He tried to keep the modeling quite simple, less is more as they say, especially here because the shoe has got a strong general appearance, so no need to add too many details.
And of course the concept of the "big behind" has been thought for Basketball, the laces are hidden, we want the look of the shoe to be as simple as possible (He like the simplicity of the Ipods for example).
He used the modeler Silo (www.nevercenter.com ) and Lightwave for the rendering.
