October 2005 - k1x Freestyle
k1x Predator
  7.33 / 10
The K1X Predator is a comfortable evolution of its flagship Chiefglider model. While the similarities are intentionally obvious, new curves add speed to the design. All lines flow smoothly and functionally through the shoe and work together to create continuity and balance. Contrasting textures in leather keep with K1X brand characteristics. Also continued is the use of inlaid leather on the molded Phylon midsole. This time the inlays are more integrated with the upper by way of common materials and continued lines. This detail diagram identifies materials. The NYC mark is barrowed from a line of K1X T-shirts and lend a street flavor to the performance oriented basketball shoe.

k1x Freeleone
  6.92 / 10
Zen returns to action after a little hiatus. He's trying to do his best to follow K1X design language while adding some modern cues. Following German designs, the Rucker Edition Freeleone shoes are hard edged with sharp lines. The main part of the shoe is mesh with leather and TPU.

k1x Crossover
  6.91 / 10
The K1X crossover concept is inspired by the FIBA and the 2006 World Championships in Tokyo. Light, quick, and with finesse help define the character. Swift clean lines and the sweeping sole and upper make the shoe appear light and fast. A hidden crossover harness system, secure the shoe to the foot. Straps have become very popular and sometimes over used. This hidden system gives a lock down fit while providing aesthetic quality. The harness can be adjusted from beneath the foot and on the heel area. A release valve on the medial side of the outsole allow for shoe removal. The cushioning is provided by a dense foam midsole; eliminating any additional weight.

MARK MINER

October 2005 - k1x Freestyle
k1x Chiefgliders
  5.64 / 10
Mark kept the overall shape as the original Chiefglider but with a little update. He found the patterns to be simple, geometric and angular. He also wanted to mix in a little bit of tech and sport feel to the overall design. He feels like the shoe captures the street game and wanted the product to speak to the game and the the players who play it. What's more interesting is that Mark added the apparel line as well as multiple colorways. The urban style clothing line ties in with the look and attitude of the shoes.
  • Upper: Combination full-grain leather and patent leather upper takes subtle design cues from the fast pace game of the street basketball game.
  • Midsole: Phylon midsole for cushioning and give lightweight performance. Flex groove in the forefoot.
  • Outsole: Was inspired by fast cuts an movements in the action of playing the ball. The placement an use of the cuts creates high traction for use on the street courts.

    October 2005 - k1x Freestyle
    k1x Albatros
      7.39 / 10
Inspired by K1X CEO Christian Grosse words "even your mom wears Nike...", Pietro's Albatros shoe is designed to offer a strong alternative design picking some classic design elements into a modern performance driven package. He employed mesh and breathable materials just like in the original Chiefglider. The midsole is geometrically designed to enhance cushioning, flexibility and stability. In place of common medial support shell Pietro implemented the new "Medial Wing" (black portion in the medial view) which is actually a flexible outrigger midsole/sole in the medial side. It should provide enhanced cushioning and stability under plantar arc and great medial grip to speed up the lateral movements without increasing too much the stiffness. The "Albatros" name came as a consequence due to the smooth and dynamic flight style of those birds. Tongue and external heel counter are like abstract bird's feathers at the tail of the wings.

    October 2005 - k1x Freestyle
    k1x GeneGlider
      7.38 / 10
What do Kobe Bryant, Ken Griffey Jr., and Payton Manning have in common? Well, they each followed in their father’s footsteps by becoming successful pro athletes. Their success can probably be attributed to receiving "good genes". With this in mind, what if the successful Chiefglider had an offspring? Perhaps the result would be a shoe that resembled the original but still managed to be an individual. This is how the GeneGlider was born. Wayne tried to make this new shoe different but at the same time retain the essence of the "Glider Family". In the nation of hoops, this new shoe is bolder and more modern looking. Have you met Gene?

    October 2005 - k1x Freestyle
    k1x X-1
      7.67 / 10
This shoe is meant to be a high performance offering from K1X. It features a new lockdown strapping system. The strap wraps from the medial side to the lateral side, forming an "X" across the foot, and it snaps on the lateral side. The strap snaps into the ankle and the forefoot. At these points, the wearer can adjust the fit by sliding the tab up or down. The mesh windows on the medial and lateral sides offer excellent breathability while the heel and midfoot support chassis create stability. The cushioning system is comprised of a resilient urethane compound sandwiched between the support chassis and rubber outsole.
