WAYNE RUSSELL Wednesday, February 15, 2006
January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | Apple ER
7.42 / 10 Because before the I-pod, there was the cd player. And before the cd player, there was the boombox. Clearly it’s about the music. It’s about that sweet sound that travels through our ear into our soul. That was Wayne's real inspiration. Rather than trying to mimic the look of the I-pod, he tried to take the essence of the product and translate it into a shoe. Coincidently, the shape of the sound wave is pretty strong (that’s why cardboard boxes have those ripples), so it worked out great at the heel. Wayne also used the Apple brand as a springboard for generating concepts. Luckily, "Apple" the brand can be linked to apple the fruit. If Apple wanted to develop something new, like a sneaker, they would certainly have to "plant seeds". The Apple ER grew from that thinking.
For the most part, the upper is made of nylon to reduce weight and there is leather at the toe for durability. AFinally, the upper is double lasted - into the grooves at the heel as well.

January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | Nike Apple: Think different
7.09 / 10 Thomas tried to capture the extremely clean design language that is present throughout Apple's line of products. There are no obvious references to Apple on the shoe design translates by avoiding the clutter and unnecessary extras that can be eliminated through efficient design... The shoe is attempting to capture that ideal with features such as a hidden lacing system, stitches that are not visible on the surface of the shoe, and lightweight materials. Simple and clean - all that this theme has asked for.

January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | iPod Nano BBall
5.61 / 10 This performance basketball shoe uses the black colorway of the ipod nano.
It features a number of subtle elements taken directly from the ipod
inspiration such as the circular cut out at the heel as weel as engraved
into the outsole, the headphone jack at the lace hole for a touch of fun and
creativity, the 6 circles featured once of the medial upper and once on the
outsole which come from the six holes cut into the ipod nano headphones, and
the orange/red heel tab which comes directly from the hold button of the
ipod nano. The inspiration was also used as a feature of the shoe, the shoe
is lightweight and a sleek design representing the overall feel of the ipod
nano, however it features enough cushioning and support in both the midsole,
the flexible mircofibre upper and the reinforced moulded stabilty heel
counter/laterial and medial support. The carbon fibre shank prevents torsion
and the moulded wave (inspired by the mizuno wave technology, but a
basketball style variation) prevents over pronation.

VENTSISLAV NIKOLOV Saturday, February 11, 2006
January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | Penny 2K10 Retro
5.67 / 10 Vent approached this theme wondering what technologies will be available 5 years from now. Having computer processors in shoes might be a possibility. Also, what will the retro era look like in 2010? Vent chose the Air Penny line as a milestone and tried to incorporate the key features of all the shoes in that line. The "intelligent" adjustable strap, powered by a processor, is the key feauture in this shoe. In hisexperience, when straps are too tight it gaves the player a heavy feeling on the court. There are 10 nano sensors in the inside sock of the shoe that are directly touched by the foot. They indicate the need for extra or less to the processor, which then send that information to the cog-wheels in the mechanism that adjust the strap. The other key is the midsole part ofthe shoe. He decides to separate it in two parts that have connection between them only in the forefoot area. He believes that such connection will have both air max cushioning (the heel midsole part is loaded with three air max units) and Shox effect called the m3x - combining both names. January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | IPOD
5.92 / 10 Jamien tried to strip away everything he possibly could and made the
shoe as simple as possible. The midsole is eliminated, the sockliner rests right on top of the "pods" and
braced by a 3/4 length carbon fiber shank plate. The
upper is a one-piece TPU unit. The holes are cut away
to reduce weight and provide maximun ventilation. The
laces work on a pulley-type system. Pull the lace,
press the button once to lock laces in place, press
again to release lace. The entire upper is encased in
a mesh covering in order to hide the technology and give it
that "IPOD" aesthetic. Click here for details.

ZENITH CHANCE Friday, February 10, 2006
January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | adidas x Nano Intelligent
6.29 / 10 To Zenith, the Ipod Nano is the most basic classical design a handheld device could be. Like the Audi TT, the lines and shapes and details are so basic, that its more or less impossible to evolve it. It is in its purest most simple form. Zen's design is inspired by Racing flats where the shoe is only composed of thin sythetic tissues and a super thin midsole. The shoe is blatantly inspired by the nano with the white upper, and chrome outsole. You can adjust the cushion of the shoe using the Adidas intelligent shoe concept with the dial on the ankle. This shoe is more of an aesthetical concept rather than a working concept.

IAN GALE Thursday, February 09, 2006
 January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | Zoom-POD
5.75 / 10 This is the ultimate lightweight performance basketball shoe. Its design was directly inspired by the Apple logo's organic shape and curves, as well as the sleek, clean and simple lines of the Ipod Nano. One of its most prominent features is the high-wrapping outsole... aesthetically it gives the shoe an "apple-brand" identity, while simultaneously, providing stability in key areas. Flex-grooves carved into the outsole privide maximum flexibility for a natural feel under-foot. Embossed circles in the outsole provide superior traction and mimics the apple mac G5's grill. Its upper features patent leather at the vamp area, nubuck (black colourway) or full-grain leather (white) at the quarter panel and synthetic leather at the collar brace/heel area. It also features a full-length inner bootie for comfort; a full-length encapsulated "air-bag" within a dense PU midsole, for highly responsive cushioning; and a carbon fiber spring plate for improved heel-to-toe transition and maximum midfoot stability. January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | Puma Cellestial BB
6.48 / 10 Inspired by the iPod nano,
the Cellerator uses the Puma Disc technology to adjust
fit and also uses Cell technology for cushioning. The
upper uses Schoeller Contec material which is durable,
lightweight and is only 0.4mm thick. It is also
covered with Schoeller NanoSphere finish, a dirt and
water repellant that protects the upper and keeps it
clean. The outsole pattern comes from the classic
Puma Clyde. The Puma Cellestial, tries to share the
same philosophies as the iPod Nano by being sleek,
lightweight, and functional.

THOMAS MURPHY Tuesday, February 07, 2006
January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | iGot Game Nano
7.67 / 10 Like the simple and pure nature of the Nano, Thomas chose to feature only the simple and elementary functions of a shoe. An Upper in one clean piece, and a sole to support it and enhance its performances, and an innovative lacing system.
The nano has absolutely no screws or devices visible, just the overall flat
and light shape so he chose to feature no stiching lines, no material
overlapings - just one slip-in for the most confortable fit. The sole is divided in two regions, the top part wich receives the foot bed,
and the low part is inspired by the thin profile of the nano.
The cushionning is made of 2 pods of gel, including thin plates who slow the
gel´s movement down during the shock apsortion. The lacing sytem is made of a single thin cable inspired by the nano´s
earphone´s cable. It surrounds the whole shoe, and is laced thanks to the
integrated reel at the back (user simply turns the transparent lever to
tighten up)

January 2006 - Apple IPOD Nano | Quantum
5.34 / 10 With the Quantum Yusuf tried to develop his design process and come
up with something unique, simple, minimalist and distinctly Apple. The iPOD
Nano and armband accessory provided him with inspiration, while trying to
insure a lightweight feel. Two straps provide extra ankle support and hold
the laces in place via a buckle, without a prong, and a velcro patch. Click here for details.
