February 2006 - Create Your Own Brand | Salinger Mutiny
6.43 / 10 "Sadly, I am the cabin boy. I run the errands. I prepare the uniforms. I swab the deck. I fetch the food. I keep quiet. Day after day. But I am really the intern. I make the copies. I take the pictures. I staple the papers. I serve the crew. I follow directions. Yesterday and today. Luckily, there is tomorrow. The day of the mutiny. The day that I become Captain. The day Salinger is born."
If you can’t join them, beat them. That’s my motto. And that would be the only reason for even considering starting my own company. No. I really don’t want to work for anyone but running a footwear company is more than I want to deal with at this point of my life. If however, I was forced to start a company, I would want to do it for something other than money. Salinger would somehow be a not for profit organization. From what I have seen, the footwear industry (as all industry) is fueled by profit. I would like my company to focus on helping people. I think this could be achieved by lowering the price point of the products, donating a large portion of the earnings, etc. This is somewhat of a broad idea but I don’t want to bore anyone with the details.
Salinger products would only be sold online and at Salinger City stores. I actually had a dream about this recently…each product would be displayed with the designers artwork, inspiration, story board, and various information about the design process. My ideas for this company are a little far fetched but it’s nice to dream without restrictions.
My company logo was inspired but that red flag you occasionally see on mailboxes. You can draw your own conclusion on its meaning. I’ve been using this logo for school projects for about a year now...I decided to stick with it. As for the company name, it is a somewhat of a tribute to J.D. Salinger..author of Catcher in the Rye. Arguably, I am also Holden Caulfield.
Salinger: own the game.

February 2006 - Create Your Own Brand | zendevelopment design
7.06 / 10 This shoe represents Zen and his personality. It is very futuristic in terms of design and graphics. Such things
that inspired him were bring vibrant colors, modern pop graphic designs and logo design. Zen's style has always been based on harsh strong lines and it clearly shows in the overall structure of the shoe.
Based on a mesh form, the shoe is overlayed by Neoprene parts and
molded foam. At the bottom of the shoe, are "intake" vents that allow
ventilation through out the shoe for breathability.

February 2006 - Create Your Own Brand | Parashooz Hevea-n
6.17 / 10 Parashooz is a fashionable footwear company that is
environmentally and socially responsible. The
materials are purchased under the rules of fair trade
so that the producers are not taken advantage of.
Almost all materials are biodegradable and no harmful
dyes or adhesives are used. Materials like the hemp
are colored with natural dyes while the leather is
chromium free. Since no adhesives were used, every
piece on the shoe is sewn together. The Hevea-n's
upper is made up of a hemp canvas and the laces are
organic cotton. The toe is made of leather and the
strap is held down by a seashell button. The natural
rubber used in the cupsole comes from the Para rubber
tree. Cushioning is provided by a removable,
recyclable EVA insole. The design is inspired by
retro shoes and wingtip dress shoes. Parashooz is a
play on 'pair of shoes' and parachutes. Like how
parachutes save lives, our 'Parashooz' save the
environment. Company created in conjunction with
Paulette Bolofer, Donald Hill, Jessica Lister, and
Courtney Weathers. Click here for sketches.

February 2006 - Create Your Own Brand | teq:u Rapida
6.69 / 10 teq:u footwear is the brand that starts from the Vitruvian man of Leonardo da Vinci. It provides "man friendly" technology with the common man at the central spot. So it became "teq" for technology/environment/quality and "u" as you meaning the man.
Technology_because Pietro believes in new breakthroughs to improve performance and reduce injuries occuring to the athletes at every level.
Environment because you should never forget about the planet... what damages the planet also damages the man at the end of the chain. This could be considered in the design phase to have a safe production environment and even at the end of footwear life thinking about the recycling process.
Quality because products should always be well constructed to make sure the product has a good value to the end user.
So the Rapida basketball shoe is quite simply designed with a sleek shape inspired by Olyimpic flames (red dressed inline skaters with a flame in their head seen in Turin winter games).
The materials employed are fully syntetic and recyclable. Mesh panels provide max breathability while synthetic leather ensures hardcore durabilty. A carbon fiber shank provides maximum arch support against plantar fascitis injuries. Hidden phylon midsole (with custom designed material density in critical areas) provide impact protection.
The herringbone pattern on the outsole is obtained with deep cuts reaching the midsole to provide top notch grip, better flexilbility and maximum weight save.

THOMAS HARTINGS Tuesday, March 07, 2006
February 2006 - Create Your Own Brand | Cobra Commander
7.71 / 10 The brand that Thomas created is named Cobra. The quickness and agility of the snake are what inspired him to design this shoe. It is a futuristic look at where he would want his shoe company to create. The color scheme came from the cobras body coloring, but once rendered it reminded him of G.I. Joe (a cartoon series popular throught out the 80's in the United States), and therefore Thomas named it the Cobra Commander.

MICHAEL HESTERBERG Sunday, March 05, 2006
February 2006 - Create Your Own Brand | Hesterberg Design Studios
5.35 / 10 The Brand is High End with Organic lines, premium materials, and
progressive style. Equity in the brand is achieved the by the consumers recognition of the revolutionary style and the quality of the materials. The Hesterberg Design Studios label simply and
clearly presents the name of the brand on a technical looking textile
stitched with a woven golden thread. The iceberg logo is applied with gold foil. The Iceberg comes from Michael's name, Hesterberg. Hesterberg-to-Berg, Berg-to-Iceberg. The third logo is the spade shape, which allows him the option to brand without fonts or a printed logo. The spade is the
highest suit in cards and a reminder of casinos, high stakes, and
big winnings - much like sports. The first season of the brand is a three-tiered approach: a basketball shoe, a casual shoe, and a dress shoe.
In following seasons Michael would offer a more diverse range in each
category as well as a women's line and an apparel line.
