Congratulations to Zenith Chance for winning the January Freestyle Theme contest. His Rbk Yao Ming rendering will be one of the finalist for Artist Series Rendering of the Year.
Zen Chance - Yao Ming Rendering Submitted by Zenith Chance Last month's runner-up is back with another bomb shell. The instaPump technology wraps along the entire foot to provide maximum support and fit. This screams big man's shoe and fittingly Yao's signature. Pay a little attention and you'll notice the Pump's air bulging inside its air pockets; the DMX/Shox-like cushioning system used at the rear; #11 at the heel; and the various All-Star & OG Fury colorways.
Yao Ming Michael_Defoto Submitted by Michael_Defoto This is a ultra-lightweight shoe which provides the high ankle support needed for a man of Yao's size. The mid foot support strap increases stability. Extra strength cushioning plates in the forefoot and the heel provide a soft comfortable landing.
Tom RushBrook Yao Ming Signature Shoe Submitted by Tom RushBrook This is a distinct piece of work that blend the shoes with Yao's heritage. Yao YOM: (Chinese Year Of the Monkey) is inspired by the head of a monkey. The shoe features: Fully breathable 3D mesh sock; TPU arch support and heel counter foot cage; Open 'Riftlike' window at the top; DMXXX 'stability vs cushioning' concept - heel gel sac. The dynamic monkey logo gives this shoe a passionate flair and unique flavor.
Yao Ming Rbk Rocket - Pep Marten Submitted by Pep Martens The Rbk Yao Ignition is inspired by the Houston Rockets and the first Chinese manned space flight. The heel of the sole is divided in three huge 'rocket' outlets that is integrated with miniature rocket-engines to give the wearer extra lift-off power, The rockets are supported by a semitransparent X-beam plate. Notice hints of a space-shuttle styling that is mixed with some Chinese flag red and yellow colored combos.
Rich Hollingsworth Submitted by Rich Hollingsworth This design seems to have excellent support and looks perfect for a big man like Yao. Tounge-less lacing system inspired by a Chinese kung fu shirt. The lace loops represents the buttons on the shirt, and a seamless stretch bootie surrounds the foot. There's breathable synthetic at the back and TPU support device around DMX cushioning in the heel.
Reebok Yao Ming - Ruben Alvarez Submitted by Ruben Alvarez Rbk Force of Nature BackDraft has an ingenious logo with the #11 YAO ying-yang. As for the shoe? We'll just read straight from the box's label: "Warning! To all real basketball players , If you suffer from the following symptoms. extreme flames (you can't miss), clouds of smoke (from burning your opponent). heated gases (ventilating from your pores). high pressure situations (3 seconds left, down by 1) be prepared for a massive explosion - beware of the BACKDRAFT."
Reebok Yao Ming - Nestor Hernandez Submitted by Nestor Hernandez Inspiration for the "Rock. It" shoe came from his old Chinese team "Sharks" (notice the shark "fin" shape side protection on the strap and the top eyelet). Perforated leather upper for breathability and IMEVA midsole for cushioning and support. The strap is not removable but adds great ankle support as it wraps around the foot.
Reebok Yao Ming - Pietro_Pellicelli Submitted by Pietro Pellicelli The shoe features DMX Reflex technology at the heel and DMX flow pack in the forefoot encapsulated in CMEVA midsole, a composite medial plate for fast big man stability, external tpu heel counter for added support which works in junction with forefoot side guardrails. Ventilation is also a big feature because of the perforated big size vector logo on the heel counter. The same mesh silver breathable fabric is employed in the lower tongue to evacuate moisture.
Reebok Yao Ming Signature Shoe - Chris_McGlynn Submitted by Chris_McGlynn This concept expands the current Rbk Enigma (Yao's shoe) onto a new level. The yellow star on the strap is representative of the Chinese flag. What's interesting is that if you look closely and use a little imagination, you can somehow spell out the name Y-A-O on the side of the sneaker.
Reebok Yao Ming - Dylan Schibanoff Submitted by Dylan Schibanoff The Reebok Drop Step is smooth and understated just like the big man himself. No bells and whistles here, just a solid all around shoe that lets Yao get the job done. We find similarities to the Jumpman Team Flow but the layering and attention to hand drawn detail is what makes this rendering stand out. This takes shoe design back to its most basic form.
Richard Hamilton - Yao Ming Shoes Submitted by Richard Hamilton The Reebok Infinity is a shoe that can be put straight into production due to its straight forward design. Absolute Reflex DMX cushioning system absorbs a wide area of the foot impact while not losing court feel. The upper is made of full grain leather, while the back rises high and is made from a synthetic foam material giving essential ankle support for the big man like Yao. We see hints of the Air Jordan XVII in this shoe. Despite the simple design, this is a shoe that attracts the eye.
Brett Pooley - Yao Ming Shoes Submitted by Brett Pooley The Reebok Devotion is inspired Yao's devotion to the game and Chinese calligraphy. The Chinese character (xing) states trust & devotion. The stripes on the shoe is much like a script stroke of the pen. We also like the Yao logo - designed by calligraphy strokes but has a basketball for the O.
James Sill - Air Zoom King James Submitted by Jamien Sill The Reebok Kundulini is inspired by the Chinese kundulini of energy and ancient Chinese architecture where, balance and symmetry are the key principles. In this shoe we see resemblance of a Chinese dragon - a metaphor to Yao Ming's representation and dominance in the league. There are also traces of the Air Jordan XIX and Rbk Answer IV in the design.
