Reebok XBeam Throwdown

(Continued ...)
XBeam Throwdown
OVERALL RATING:
7.29 / 10
Comfort: 7
Performance: 7
Cushioning: 8
Safety: 7
Weight: 6.5
Durability: 8
Style: 7.5
HIGHS: Simple, clean and elegant design. Appears to be a higher-class level shoe than what the price tag would suggest. XBeam technology is a worthy and inexpensive alternative to the Nike's Shox and Adidas' A3.

LOWS: Sits too high off the ground. Fit in the forefoot could be better with extra row of laces. Due to constant shifting in our tests, we suggest you possibly trying a half-size smaller to compensate.

VERDICT: If you have never seriously thought about Reebok products before, the Throwdown is worthy a shoe to take a look. Not only is it a competitor, it is a cheap alternative to what Nike and Adidas offer for relatively the same kind of results. Aftermarket prices are $20-30 for the Throwdown as of this writing - it's a bargain.

Durability was another surprise for us. The Throwdown held up better than most shoes that are a class higher in category. After 10-15 wears, the shoes showed almost no signs of wear besides minor scuffs and wrinkles.

To sum it all up, if you can look past a few nuisances that may occur depending on your foot type and your style of game, the Throwdown is a dirt cheap alternative to its high performance counterparts. We didn't expect much going in to the test but we were pleasantly surprised with the results. It is a clear indication that Rbk has what it takes to compete in the basketball shoes market. We just don't know why they won't do it on a consistent basis. Aftermarket prices as of this writing are a bargain for the Throwdown and is definitely worth a consideration for your next basketball shoe.
