Overview: Before we begin, let us state that the XXI looks MUCH better in person than in pictures. Do yourself a favor and check out this shoe at your local shoe store. The shoe was inspired by the Bentley Continental GT coupe. Independent Podular Suspension technology places carefully tuned cushioning columns beneath key performance areas of the foot. Resting directly above the outsole, I.P.S is positioned for maximum efficiency in compression and dispersion of shock and energy transfer, enabling quick and responsive reaction to the performance needs of basketball. Overlaying mesh in key performance area's, the grill design aids breath ability to help you cool. Interchangeable heel cushioning system lets you choose between Zoom Air or Encapsulated Air. While this is a very innovative idea (first of its kind), the cushioning only occurs at a relative small area in the heel and not significant as one would think - where's the benefit Zoom Air's low profile when they are the same height? The extra bump on the insole actually gives the wearer a greater initial heel sensation than the interchangable cushioning. The IPS pods are transparent and the final circular pod at the heel is kind of loose and soft. This makes the heel area extra cushy as well as improved traction. We only wonder how it last in wear & tear over the long run?
Overall, the XXI is a big step above in performance and comfort than the previous 3 generations. In fact, we'd have to go all the way back to the XIV to find such a great overall package. Some of the color schemes are suspect for casual ballers but with the Air Jordan 21 you can't deny the return of a legend back to its throne.
