2005 Artist Series Contest (May): Allen Iverson - Answer X
Allen Iverson came on to the scene as the hottest baller with a shoe contract since Jordan. The Reebok Question and first four Answer signatures sold extremely well. In the past 4 years however, there has been a dramatic decline in the model line. Reebok has been clueless in the design department - copying traits of past shoe greats rather than developing their own style. Now let's say you just got hired to be their chief designer with a 1 month deadline, just how would you design upcoming Answer X? Due Date: 05/15/05

Condrads Edgar on winning this contest but can you do me a favor next month since the next shoe is close to my heart. Lay off the rendering so much and show the purity of your design ability. I think you rely HEAVILY on your rendering skills and you don't spend enough time actually paying attention to the design of the shoe. I am not knocking you(well, I am a little bit) but this is a DESIGN competition not a rendering competition.

With that said I still think Sun, had the BEST DESIGN in this competition. And, for ALL of you entering next months competition YES, I will be checking in to see what the talent level is like but you guys need to post more exploration of how you got to your final design and not just some pretty renderings. I want to see who can actually design out there. Pretty renderings do not make you a great Designer. Designs make you a great Designer.

Good Luck guys..

Congrats Edgar man!! three for three WOW.

Although i hate to say it and it is seriously no knock on you man cuz I love your designs Ed, this kind of proves that rendering skills make winners when all is said and done. It's not surprising and there's nothing wrong with that tho, we are all suckers for beauty :)

There are two key things to getting your file down to 200k.
1. Make sure the size is 800x600.
2. Use the Save for web option, that way you can compress your file while controlling how much quality is lost (your image always loses some while converting from .psd to .jpg.

Congratulations to Edgar Vergara, running away with the title for the third straight time. He's the Rasheed Wallace of this site, when he comes to play, he's unstoppable. Well done!

I sincerely apologize for the comment with regards to the jordan x, i was a little caught up in the hype... with that said, matt i love the design of your nike free based shoe. however, in terms of actual implementation, it appears that some of the structural aspects of the shoe would inhibit the actual purpose of free technology (that is if the white/silver heel counter and side supports are more than just a colored element of the upper). if you were intending to create a free based shoe with inspiration from earlier nike zoom spiridons i could see the side support structures helping to serve a runner with a versatile trainer. i love the rendering would love to see more of your work (i already checked out some of it on niketalk and was impressed). keep up the good work, im hoping to display some of my handdrawn renderings in the near future and cannot wait to see what some of you guys have up your sleeves for the xxi contest.

Man, sad to see Dada couldnt capitalize on the popularity they had when CWEBB and company were hot in Sacramento. I heard about that battle they had with Nike ( it was about the Shox right? ) But I didnt think that totally took the wind out of their sales. Dada had some nice clean designs, but eventually I think they milked the cow too many times, when they started to add Woodgrain accents to the shoes. and dont get me started on spinners......... lol

Wayne: Who bought And1? Thats another sad story....even with popularity of the And1 Mixtape tour, they couldnt promote the actual shoes properly.

Dallas: 30 people at dada? still? Is Michael Cherry still with them? I remember this guy's name for some reason...they used to have a tiny office in NYC( empire state building) maybe six years ago...like when I was in high school...I remember showing him my work and him telling me I needed to draw the shoe from more than one angle...who knew?

ey, if you want to post that final version I got you.

didn't And 1 just get bought?...they're finished! probably. I read adidas wanted a piece of them. oh well.

YUBO:TO BE HONEST MAN DADA HAS JUST HAD A MASSIVE BATTLE(FOR DADA)WITH NIKE.THEY WERENT ABLE TO FOCUS ON DESIGN AND IT REALLY HURT THERE RELATIONSHIPS WITH RETAIL. ALSO YOU WOULD BE SHOCKED AT HOW SMALL THEY ARE,NO MORE THAN 30 EMPLOYES. HOPEFULLY I CAN HELP GET THEM GOING STRONG ESPECIALLY NOW THAT AND1 HAS BEEN DESTROYED.
JEONG:FORGET ABOUT IT JUST SHOW US A HOT JORDAN!!!NOBODY BUYS IVERSON ANYWAY.ALTHOUGH I WOULD PAY MONEY FOR SOME OF THESE SUBBMISSIONS.ESPECIALLY EDGAR YOUR S__T IS INSANE!!!I LOVE IT!!JUST WISH WE COULD HAVE SEEN MORE DETAIL OF HOW THE SHOE CAME TO BE.

I see the score jump too but I think you guys may be a bit too paranoid of KG staff's actions. I think it's just that the displayed score are not a realtime graphic of the vote counter, so they refresh when the staff gets to it.

Anyways, I love most of those Dallas designs man! the "8" lace cover on the Kobes is very creative indeed. and how come I never see any of those dada's in stores anywhere??

Tony: I don't even question the voting anymore..sometimes you gotta take it with a grain of salt as they say but yeah...the numbers jumped almost overnight.

Matt: I got those from Dallas himself. I don't have any dates though.

Brian: as far as I know he's doing freelance work at the moment...not sure with who though...

wow, those last dadas are the ish, and those kobes remind me of the foamposite pros looks a tad bulky for a kobe shoe but more importantly the thought process and note are really cool and intersting, the detailing is top notch...is it me or does there seem to be a consistent design elements going through all of these...that superman drawing is dope...

yo wayne, are you still at f.i.t? or are you going id now?
