Hoops & Sneaker Art Okay, we all know those of us who either are or aspire to be shoe designers. But are you an artist aside from that? Show your work, but keep it related to hoops or kicks. |

I was inspired to start this thread after watching LA Ink last night. The show featured a one-time showing of works on canvas by tattoo artists. But it wasn't until I searched out the portfolio of Shawn Barber, one artist featured on the show, that I got the idea for this post. I thought it would be cool if we could check out some of the other creative stuff we do besides shoe design. By the way, here's a relevant work by Shawn Barber, a professional portrait artist who recently started tattooing. I think he did this painting for Converse (maybe Mike DiTullo can confirm).
Click here to check out more work by Shawn Barber.
... and here's his blog.
This guy inspires me to want to paint again. |

This was the first ever painting I actually did, besides as a young kid...I was a senior in HS, and did it as a graduation present for my little brother who was graduating middle school...
Kinda weird coincidence, as to the other art in here haha...

Ryan; great topic.
I have been following Shawn Barber for a couple of years now. And I believe that Wade painting was done for Sports Illustrated or for Sports Illustrated for kids. But I know he has done paintings for Converse also. A couple years back converse hired artists to do paintings based on their lifestyle and he was commissioned then.
I am at work otherwise I would post that painting also. |

Here's a painting I did in 1992. I gave it to a kid who lived down the street for his 10th birthday.

Thanks! I was the same way with the #2 until the end of this year. White charcoal's pretty easy to work with actually, but it does smear easily. If you have the stuff available I'd definitely recommend it. Plus it's easy to create some stunning contrast.
