yuanzheng, I like the asymmetric lace idea, especially the minimal approach you took. I even like it on that sole, even though it probably wouldn't retail well in today's market. I would be cool to see you sketch that upper on a variety of bottoms, from low-profile to thick platform. Here's a platform idea below (I just edited your drawing). Not as athletic, but don't let that stop you from exploring ideas.

Proportions, Johnny. Proportions.
Don't be so anxious to whip out the markers and start coloring. Form, line, proportion, all of which play into function and performance, should be more important concerns for you at this point. Here's an exercise: Knock out a bunch of sketches (say, 30 or 40 every day, only 2 or 3 inches apiece) with a ballpoint pen and don't concern yourself so much with color until you can routinely draw a proportionally correct shoe.
It's natural to want to get into the marker work, but you need the basics. It's like my 13 year old son with his guitar. He'd prefers to just riff on Clapton, AC/DC and Guns-N-Roses songs, but I have to make him practice basic chords and pentatonic scales.
Speaking now in basketball terms, don't become one of those guys who can win dunk contests, but has no jump shot and can't hit a freethrow. Work on the basics.

Alex, some okay ideas there. At first I thought you needed to lengthen the front half of the shoe, but that's not the problem. Here are the problems... The slope of the shoe from the top of the tongue to the toe is too straight. It should be more curved. Also, the arch/shank plate sits too far forward. It should always be lined up with the highest part directly below the top tip of the tongue.
Did you do any preliminary sketches for this rendering? |

I have been visiting this site for sometime and have posted images in the past and have received next to no feed back. I was going to submit a piece for the Lebron series but i still felt like my final product would have been compromised a bit seeing as how i am still working on photoshop just to get it on the level all you I.D. students are at, but this was my brain-child and inspiration. |

Evil -- I deleted your more frivolous posts (I guess the ones you made because you're "an ass"). As for your design... That Mercedes is sweetness, and I see it in your shoe, but the design is just okay. Some of the comments I've recently made to others in this thread apply to you as well, so just backtrack for more feedback.
I think your double faceted ankle strap has a problem. When it is worn, it's likely to wrinkle and pucker in some awkward ways. Maybe one way to solve it would be to remove the small section that connects the two parts and just let it be two straps. That would also allow you to fasten one thighter that the other. That's another problem with its current configuration. The connected straps limit your ability to get a more customized fit.
As for your sarcasm ("im an ass."), it doesn't bother me, personally. I actually enjoy a very mean and sarcastic raport with my closest friends, and it's funny to us. But those of us here at KG don't know you very well. So I think the humor of your comments gets sort of lost. |

Evil,
I have felt the same way sometimes, but it drives me to work harder. MAKE people want to comment because the design is so interesting or unique. Your inspiration is definitely an interesting one and I think you are on your way with the design. Here are some of the issues Ryan may be referring to:
Proportion/Shape
Materials
Fit
Good start. |

I greatly appreciate the feed back, since i am not an actual design student yet. I am still just in the infancy of my learning process. The prismacolours are still very new to me and the same goes for all the techniques that go with them. I am right now trying to find a good school with an on-line program until i can move to a place with an actual campus. But until then trial and error will have to be my instructor, and of course the community at KG is a god send. I'm just glad the idea i had was not a bust.My proportions are a hit and miss depending on the position of the player i am thinking of, gaurd, forward, center etc.But every piece of info i can get is gold. Thanks again Ryan and Brent. |

Evil -- As Brent said, proportions are still an issue, but that's a easy fix with a good trace template, at least until you get better at laying it out by hand. Here's one...

Yeah your proportions are off, it owuldnt be bad just thicken up that toebox cause that really makes the design a lot weaker. As for the rest, cool stuff, gotta agree with Ryan on the double strap, good idea though! The inspiration is really unique which makes it real cool, good idea! |

Thanks again guys, i have had the flu for the past couple of days, so i will most certainly try to apply all of your advice as soon as i can, i know i have to work on that toebox issue. Other than that, does anyone have a favourite between the two design.I also posted another shoe hoping the proportions are a little bit better.
